Evolution Pays £4.75m Settlement to Gambling Commission

Live casino provider Evolution has agreed to a £4.75m financial settlement with the UK Gambling Commission. The payment concludes a regulatory review initiated in 2024 regarding the unauthorized distribution of content to two unlicensed operators.

The investigation identified six websites where Evolution’s live dealer games were accessible despite a lack of proper licensing. The company stated that the review found no broader pattern of unlicensed access across its network. Evolution attributed the breach to specific operators that actively evaded technical restrictions in place at the time.

CEO Martin Carlesund noted that the supplier does not seek traffic from illegal entities and considers the availability of its content in unlicensed lobbies unacceptable. He emphasized that the company will continue to invest in compliance standards to address third-party attempts to circumvent controls.

Industry Regulatory Context

The settlement coincides with ongoing discussions regarding the scale of the illegal gambling market in the UK. Entain recently highlighted that illegal promotion is occurring at scale, leading the Betting and Gaming Council to urge technology firms to enforce stricter measures. The regulatory environment has also evolved following the recent approval of financial risk checks.
