Italy’s Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli ordered the blocking of 190 unlicensed gambling websites on August 5. Internet service providers must implement the restrictions by August 20.
Regulatory Enforcement and Affected Platforms
The directive, issued under Article 102 of Legislative Decree No. 104 of 2020, requires ISPs to display an agency notification on affected pages. The message informs Italian users that the gambling services offered are not authorized for domestic access. The updated blocklist includes domains operated by the Russian platform Fonbet, specifically fonbet.com and fonbet-italy.com. While marketing campaigns featuring former ambassador Andrea Pirlo increased visibility for the brand, the agency confirmed the enforcement action stems solely from licensing compliance.
