Merkur Casino UK has completed the acquisition of Victoria Gate Casino in Leeds, adding a third land-based location to its domestic portfolio. The venue will resume operations on 13 July 2026 following a scheduled closure to finalize the transfer from its previous owners, a subsidiary of VGC Developments.

The property closed on 6 July 2026 to allow for the rebranding process. Under the new ownership, the floor will feature table games including blackjack, poker and roulette, alongside recently updated slot machines. Mark Schertle, chief operating officer for Merkur Casino UK, confirmed that the company intends to preserve all current employment positions and retain the existing operations team. He stated that the Leeds location supports the operator’s ongoing expansion strategy within the United Kingdom. Richard Noble, chief executive officer of Victoria Gate Casino, noted that both organizations maintain a shared focus on service continuity during the handover.The acquisition follows Merkur Casino UK’s earlier expansion steps in the region. The operator launched its first United Kingdom site in Aberdeen in 2023 and secured the Milton Keynes property in 2025.
